21st Annual Partners in Business at Utah State University
December 1-2, 2004
Information and Technology Seminars

The 21st Annual Information Technology Seminar for Partners in Business, a University of Utah program was held December 1 st and 2 nd at USU in Logan , Utah . SIM was recognized as one of the co-sponsors and supporters of the program. Members of SIM Intermountain who attended from their respective companies were Dave Berg, Don Gardner, David Lewis, Ted Peck and Steve Welker. The Partners in Business web site states that the Information Technology Seminar " Focuses on the dynamic world of technology and its profound effect on business operations." The conference was well run by the MIS department at USU with the assistance of faculty and students.

The first day SIM Intermountain board member David Lewis was seated at the head table during the noon luncheon and was asked to speak for a few minutes about SIM International and the Intermountain Chapter. He gave an impressive overview of the value of the organization in developing IT leaders and spoke of the scholarships which are awarded annually by SIM Intermountain to two USU students.

The next day began with a rousing and motivational keynote presentation by our own David Berg, Vice President 2004-2005 for SIM Intermountain . His talk, titled "Agility in Information Technology" stressed the importance of "spirit, governance, and technology". He emphasized the importance of an IT organization which can respond to the needs of the business at the speed at which the business must change. An IT organization which can not do this is just an impediment to the business moving forward and not a partner for success. His presentation was informative and provided real world examples of how "Agile" works at O.C. Tanner. The audience was rewarded with great information while being entertained by Dave's humorous antidotes. Dave is the recipient of the CIO Magazine 2004 CIO top 100 award.
